The night of my last post, I invited some people to come to the tiniest of going away parties for the woman who brought me to Seattle.

The next day, she left.

Nancy and her husband are moving out of the country. As much as she drove me crazy, I will miss her. She taught me a lot, always had my back, and I knew if I really needed something, I could call her.

That last part is looming large, now that she’s gone.

My family isn’t close by and doesn’t reach out often. I have friends here, but - with one exception - not the kind i’m always comfortable calling when shit goes sideways. Nancy was someone I trusted, who knew what to do in an emergency.

She was also my last real connection to NYC. Now there’s only one person in Seattle who knew me before I moved here, and we never really hung out back then.

So, that’s all, Folks! Onward, Ho!

Onward, as it turns out, is a six day keto egg fast.

Six eggs a day. Three cheese strings. A tablespoon of fat with every two eggs. Morning coffee with a little Oat milk, plus four drops of stevia. A half cup of kefir with psyllium husks because I may make questionable nutritional choices, but I still need my fiber.

After day two, I added kimchi.

All the eggs were boiled, which gave me multiple opportunities to experiment with learning how to make them the way I like them on an electric stove versus gas. The first batch was way too soft. The second was too hard. Finally, I hit that jammy consistency that I like.

GOLDILOCKS!

The egg fast was mosely a hard stop on sugar. “Trying” hadn’t been working, so I opted for cold turkey. As of this writing, I’m three days out now and still haven’t indulged. I came very close to taking a sip of a bourbon brown butter latte today, but stopped myself just before the cup hit my lips. I knew if I had any, I’d be done for.

#WINNING.

I was also hoping that six days of extreme dietary sugar avoidance might settle my brain enough to concentrate on that master list I started three weeks ago.

Results were mixed.

On Saturday, I spent five hours happily cleaning my house while listening to bad music, wiping down every surface, and vacuuming all the nooks and crannies.

Yesterday, my aim was to focus on accomplishing two HOA tasks. One should have been simple and, for whatever reason, wasn’t. The other, I thought I had it buttoned up until I encountered an application so long, convoluted, and apparently incompletable, that eventually, I had to admit defeat.

I accomplished neither. I did, however, stick with both tasks long enough to determine that - for once - the problem wasn’t me.

PROGRESS?

I also did not get around to glueing Charley’s (the sailfish) nose back onto her face.

Don’t turn your back on a baby in the bathtub.

A month ago, Charley fell off the fence - her bathtub - when I turned my back on her while preparing to clean the sanding dust off. Now I need to glue her face back together, re-epoxy her, sand her again, and UV coat her.

Obviously, I’m on a deadline…

These are the stories of my life.

The gym has been going well, although I skipped this morning, which feels like a miss. I’ll go tomorrow.

I WILL GO TOMORROW.

While I haven’t been eating sugar, I have certainly been spending money like it’s going out of style.

Prime Days are not always helpful, but who can pass up cheap snail slime?

I bought a bunch of new clothes, mostly for the gym and an upcoming trip, plus one button-down shirt I wasn’t entirely sure about that turned out to be a god buy. I also made an IKEA trip and finally found a visual anchor for the living room.

Not all of the money was spent frivolously, I put a decent chunk towards my credit card… Approximately the same size chunk I just spent on clothes and IKEA…

One step forward, one step back! BACHATA, BABY!

Tomorrow, I’m doing dinner and an improve show with a friend on her last day as a sexagenarian. OOh! She’ll Like it when I remind her that that’s where she’s been this entire decade!

“Sexagenarian” is waaaaay more exciting than “quinquagenarian,” which just sounds like a made-up word. No wonder no one is excited to be in their 50’s.

One weird thing that’s been happening lately is that somewhere between the eggs, and the HOA, and the broken sailfish and the spending and cleaning and all the things I have and haven’t managed to get done, i’ve been catching myself smiling.

For not particular reason. Just because

I like my likfe.

I like that I like my life.

That feels like an accomplishment.
