Sunday, October 25th, 2026Today marks exactly two weeks since I ended my egg fast. I still have not had any sugar. I went to work one day and didn’t touch the candy jar. I made chocolate cherry cupcakes and my favorite chocolate cake with vanilla cream frosting and gave it all away without even licking a bowl, a spoon, a beater, a spatula or even a finger.
I have been eating oatmeal or eggs for breakfast. I have a kiwi most days. One night I had a piece of bread with dinner. I’ve had some brown rice and some pasta. I’m trying to eat through the things I have at home.
But no sugar. Egg fasts give me super powers.
I’ve been going to the gym more lately as well. Sometimes, with half-hearted enthusiasm, but I still go. I only have two more workouts to finish this section. I can do two more workouts.
Possibly related, it seems I’ve broken through a wall and finally managed to get some things accomplished - namely, an HOA bank account and some file organization. The file organization still needs some work, but there’s a system in place, which is arguably the hardest part.
I’m working on getting a grip on the 30 thousand other things that need to be handled in my life as well, one premature baby step at a time. It seems like everything has a deadline of yesterday and I’ve been struggling with what to tackle first.
So I started baking.
I assumed I was baking for procrastination purposes - and historically, I would be - but since I’m not eating sugar, the fact that I’m still baking cupcakes is interesting.
Every time I opt not to lick something, I feel weirdly self-satisfied (for those of you who know my long history of wanting to lick things, you can understand why I might find this strange).
Maybe cupcakes are the answer…
Clearly I can tell myself “no”. Clearly I can do things I don’t want to do. So why am I baking cupcakes when I have 30 thousand other things to do?
Because I know how to bake cupcakes. Cupcakes have a clear beginning, an end, and a process to follow in the middle. The only wiggly part is the cleanup where I need to determine how to stack all the dishes on my little drying rack.
30 thousand things is a lot of wiggly parts.
The online application for the HOA savings account isn’t working, so I will need to talk to an actual person.
I need to put leaf guards in my gutters, so I have to borrow my neighbor’s extension ladder, then figure out where to set it up.
I’m struggling to attach the sailfish’s nose back to the face because gravity is a hard thing to fight.
I’m tired of trying to hold and sort through so much in my head. I want to to write everything down on post-it notes, stick them to the wall and move them around until I get some semblance of order. BE SPECIFIC! Then maybe I can get a grip.

Buy four leaf guards at Home Depot. Ask neighbor when I could borrow his extension ladder and he can help me not die.
Check in with Genna to see when she can help me with Charley’s nose.
And 29,997 more to go…
And I can do this, because I know how to finish a cupcake.
